A tengerparti pihenő után ismét hosszú szakasz várt a résztvevőkre, több, mint 600 kilométer a misztikus Nemrut-hegy lábáig.
A Nemrut-hegyi kempingbe már délután szállingóztak a versenyzők, de természetesen akadtak, akik nem csak a tájba gyönyörködtek. A barna Moszkvics a geotracer.hu csapattal a fedélzetén üzemanyag-ellátási problémákkal küzdött a török autópályán 43 fokban szerelte a két csapattag. Miután helyi „szakértő” kezekbe került az autó, mind az üzemanyagcsövek, mind a hűtőcsövek tönkrementek, így több órát veszítettek, mire egy valóban hozzáértő szerelő az összes problémát elhárította. A rombolásért több száz Eurót fizettek a fiúk, így a nap nem múlt el tanulság nélkül számukra.
A többi szovjet gyártású autó is elkezdett rendetlenkedni, A 73-as „Az utolsó nap” elnevezésű csapat Lada Samarája napok óta gyengélkedik, nem bírja az emelkedőket. A 21-es „Ezüstnyíl” a Nivához hasonlóan kerékcsapágy cserén esett át és egy darabig tökéletesnek tűnt egészen addig, amíg szét nem ment az autóban a differenciálmű. Mindannyian abban bíznak, hogy Grúziába átérve az őshazában könnyen és olcsón orvosolni tudják a problémákat.
Az egész napi forróság után a Nemrut-hegyen kellemes idő várta a versenyzőket, és akik időben beértek még gyönyörködhettek a csúcsról a páratlan naplementében. Később Karcsi, a 03-as Gumihajó csapat (és az egész mezőny) szakácsának fantasztikus kecskepörköltje fogadta a csapatokat. Többen „megtértek’, akik azelőtt húzódoztak a szarvas állatka elfogyasztásától.
Az este további része is buliba torkollott, hiszen, a tegnapi naptól eltérően itt senki sem szólt, hogy csendesebben mulatozzunk, legfeljebb a több ezer éves szoborfejeket zavarhattuk volna.
Holnap ismét egy kemény szakasz vár a mezőnyre, Törökország legmelegebb tájain kell autózniuk a Van-tó partján fekvő kempingbe.

Day 8: more heat, mechanics, goat meat
Another day in Turkey! After relaxing on the beach the previous afternoon, the teams were recharged and ready to go. The destination was Mount Nemrut, where a treasure trove of ancient wonders awaited the travelers. The coordinators recommended that the teams arrive before sundown, so everyone got an early start.
The day proved eventful for some. Team geotracer.hu-Malibus ran into some serious fuel problems along the way. After trying to repair their Moskvitch on the side of the road in the 43 oC heat, they gave up and paid 100 Euros for a local mechanic to help them out. Unfortunately the mechanic wasn’t much of a mechanic after all, and he did more harm than good – a further two hours were spent finding a ‘proper’ mechanic and getting the old car fixed.
More mechanical problems got in the way of Team no. 21, ‘Silver Arrow’, who had to replace their wheel bearings, only to lose their differential a bit further down the road. The girls were looking forward to cheap mechanics in Georgia.
Team ‘The Last Day’ also faced vehicular obstacles losing their power and struggling uphill every time, but worked at the camp site on Mt. Nemrut to fix their Lada Samara.
After a swelteringly hot day, the cool air on Mt. Nemrut was welcomed by all. Teams that heeded the advice and made it to the site on time were able to see the ruins, and watch a glorious sunset from the site.
Karcsi from Team 03, ‘Rubber Ship’ cooked up a tasty goat stew that was enjoyed by everyone – even those who were a bit timid by the thought of eating goat meat. The party lasted late into the night, as the teams prepared themselves for the next day’s drive through the hottest part of Turkey.
